"Black Alabamans, like all voters in every state, deserve equal representation in Congress. Today's federal court rebuke of the Alabama state legislature's most recent racially discriminatory redistricting plan--on the heels of the Supreme Court's prior decision in Allen v. Milligan--sends a clear message that state legislatures must abide by the Voting Rights Act, that dissembling delays will not be tolerated, and that fair districts must be in place in time for the 2024 elections. This is a victory for Alabama voters and a step toward equal access to the ballot for all eligible Americans."
